Cambridge resident Tyuane Johnson, Jr., 24, was an innocent bystander watching fireworks on Monday, July 4, when he got caught in the crossfire and was fatally hit by a bullet.
Johnson was watching fireworks in the area of the 1000 block of Cosby Lane in Cambridge at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday night when he was struck, police said. He was rushed to the Dorchester General Hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
The autopsy from the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Johnson’s death was a homicide from a gunshot wound, according to officials. The shooting remains under investigation.
Following his death, a GoFundMe fundraising campaign was started to help assist his family and 2-year-old daughter.
“He was a great man and even better father. He leaves behind a (2-year-old) daughter," Ariel Jenkins, the organizer of the GoFundMe posted. “Our family knows they’re people that would like help in our time of need and all donations are welcome.”
